OUR HISTORY
On May 25, 2008, an EF5 tornado swept through Parkersburg, Iowa and leveled 22 businesses. One of those businesses was the town’s only grocery Store, S&S Foods. Owned by Blake and Kathy Simon for nearly 20 years—the couple decided to shut the store down for good, and Parkersburg was left without a local grocery store. All of that all changed when a trio of Brother’s— Jared, Jay and Darian DeVries (all former graduates of Aplington-Parkersburg High School)—stepped up to ensure their community would have a grocery store. In May of 2009, the Brother’s opened their first store in Parkersburg, Iowa and named it “Brothers Market.” Since 2009, many communities have heard about and visited Brother’s Market. Our store’s brand and our service model: “Where we treat you like family”—has led to an 16 store operation.
